Great news! In collaboration with the Camp, Brüstle, and Takebe labs, received a Human Cell Atlas pilot project grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to explore how well cerebral and liver organoids recapitulate inter-individual variation in gene expression. We are excited to get started on this fundamental project! Here is a link to the press release.

Our manuscript analyzing liver bud organoids is out in Nature! This was an amazing international collaboration with Keisuke Sekine and Takanori Takebe and the rest of the folks at Yokohama University! Thanks so much to everyone here in Leipzig and Dresden that made this work possible. Here is a link to the letter.
Also, Elizabeth Pennisi wrote a very nice story about our work in Science here.

We wrote a News & Views about two great brain organoid papers from the Arlotta and Pasca labs that just appeared in Nature. Very exciting work! Here is a link to the perspective.

Our Spotlight article on "Human Organomics" is out in Development. Thanks so much to Caroline Hendry for helping with this project! Here is the link to the paper.
Welcome to our two new group members Jorge Kageyama and Damian Wollny! Damian is joining us from DKFZ in Heidelberg, where he performed his PhD in Ana Martin-Villalba's group and Jorge comes from the MPI for Developmental Biology in Tübingen, where he did his PhD with Detlef Weigel.

Our paper on differences and similarities between human and chimpanzee cerebral organoids is published in eLife! It was a great collaboration between our and Svante Pääbo's group in Leipzig as well as Wieland Huttner's group at the MPI-CBG in Dresden. Thanks especially to Felipe Mora-Bermudez and Farhath Badsha!
Check out the paper here.

The diversity of cell types in the mouse striatum is published in Cell Reports! It was a great collaboration led by Ozgun Gokce and Geoff Stanley from the Quake and Südhof labs at Stanford. Congrats! Check it out here.

Gray and Barbara will be attending the "Stem Cell Models of Neural Regeneration and Disease" ISSCR/CRTD Symposium in Dresden to present our work dissecting direct reprogramming of fibroblasts to neurons as well as our recent cerebral organoid manuscript.
Also, somehow Barbara's original artwork wasn't selected for the cover so we prepared a mock up of what would have looked like anyways...not too shabby.

Our first paper comparing gene expression in cerebral organoids and fetal neocortex is published. Congrats to Gray, Sabina, Tobi, Wulf, Svante and Barbara! It was a great collaboration with Farhath Badsha, Marta Florio and the rest of the Huttner lab in Dresden!
Check it out at PNAS here!
